The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced its political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections with a major campaign flag-off in the Remo area of Ogun East Senatorial Area. signalling its determination to win the senatorial seat.
The campaign flag-off, which took place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in the Remo area, drew party leaders, grassroots mobilisers, youths, women and supporters who gathered to formally launch the campaign of the party’s candidate, Alhaji Femi Omotayo, popularly known as OmoOwo.
The event was characterised by chants of solidarity, colourful party displays and enthusiastic speeches, offering an early indication of the level of mobilisation the PDP hopes to sustain as the senatorial contest gathers momentum.
OmoOwo, who is seeking to represent Ogun East in the Senate in 2027, used the occasion to begin what his campaign described as a broad-based engagement with voters across the senatorial district.
The large turnout became one of the major talking points of the campaign flag-off, with participants describing the gathering as evidence of growing grassroots interest in the OmoOwo candidacy.
One participant said the mobilisation extended beyond party officials, as supporters and residents from different communities turned out to identify with the campaign.
“What I saw here today is different. People came from different areas, and the enthusiasm was real. You could see that many people wanted to be part of what was happening,” the participant said.”
Another participant, a young supporter, said the campaign’s emphasis on effective representation and greater inclusion of young people had attracted support from youths.
“We want leaders who will listen to the people. We want somebody who can represent our interests and remain accessible. That is why many of us are here,” he said.
While the turnout generated considerable excitement, the size of the crowd also signalled the party’s readiness to intensify its electoral mobilisation. Political observers, however, noted that the real test would be the ability of the campaign to translate the initial enthusiasm into sustained voter engagement across the senatorial district.
The level of participation provides the PDP and the OmoOwo campaign with an opportunity to consolidate their grassroots structures and build momentum ahead of the 2027 election.
A grassroots PDP supporter at the event said the immediate task was to convert the enthusiasm generated by the flag-off into sustained ward-level mobilisation.
“The flag-off is only the beginning. The real work starts now. We have to go into the wards, meet the people and explain what OmoOwo intends to do for Ogun East.”
The campaign has placed emphasis on effective representation, accountability, accessibility, inclusion and development-oriented leadership.
A woman who attended the mobilisation said residents were looking for representation that would remain connected to them beyond the election.
“We are looking for somebody who will remember the people after the election. Our communities have needs, and we want representation that will listen and act.”
Although the ability to attract a large crowd at a campaign event demonstrated organisational strength, but electoral victory is ultimately determined by voters’ decisions at the polling units. OmoOwo candidacy that represent credibility, trustworthiness, accessibility and a convincing policy agenda will remain critical to winning voters’ support. As it sustains the momentum generated by the flag-off.
The next phase of the campaign is expected to focus on wider ward-to-ward mobilisation, engagement with community stakeholders, interaction with youths and women, and the presentation of policy priorities to voters.
However, the journey has moved beyond the symbolism of a campaign flag-off. The candidate’s personality, political record, message and grassroots presence will be tested as the campaign seeks to convince voters across the district that his candidacy represents the kind of senatorial leadership and representation they desire.

The campaign also featured the PDP candidate for Remo Federal Constituency, Asiwaju Bolarinwa Oluwole, whose candidacy formed part of the party’s broader electoral mobilisation in the area.
The Remo campaign flag-off has injected fresh energy into the emerging Ogun East political contest, producing the crowds, chants, speeches and political declarations that traditionally accompany the launch of a major election campaign.
The message from the campaign ground is clear: the PDP has opened its Ogun East campaign with a strong show of mobilisation, while OmoOwo has formally begun his journey towards the 2027 Senate contest.
