Growing discontent is spreading across Ijebuland amid reports of an alleged departure from a political understanding said to have been reached between Traditional Leaders and Elders from Yewaland and Ijebuland concerning the Ogun State governorship succession and the selection of Deputy Governor arrangement.
The development, which has become a subject of intense discussion in political and community circles, centres on claims that an understanding was reached during some powerful stakeholders especially the Traditional Leadership consultations preceding the ongoing 2027 political realignments. According to stakeholders familiar with the discussions, the understanding reportedly provided that Ijebuland would support the emergence of a governor from Ogun West, while the Deputy Governorship position would be conceded to Ijebu Ode and the Ijebu Central Federal Constituency.
Although details of the alleged agreement were never formally made public, many stakeholders maintain that it formed a critical basis for the support eventually extended to Ogun West’s governorship aspiration by key interests across Ijebuland.
