Residents of Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area gathered in large numbers on Friday, February 6, 2026, to celebrate the developmental strides recorded under the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun, Executive Governor of Ogun State, as part of activities marking the state’s 50th anniversary.
The well-attended event can be described as the Ijebu-Ode Scorecard, reflected the strong communal spirit and unity of the ancient town.
Among those present were leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), members of the League of Imams, Community Development Associations, youth and women groups, party faithful from Ward One to Ward Eleven, traditional rulers, market leaders, artisans, and other dignitaries from across the area
The gathering provided residents with an opportunity to reflect on the area’s developmental journey and acknowledge the progress recorded under the leadership of Governor Abiodun.
Speaking at the event on behalf of the state government, Hon. Rahman Okubadejo Oladipo, the Commissioner for Finance of Ogun State, described the transformation witnessed across Ogun State under Governor Abiodun’s leadership as both remarkable and impactful. He emphasised that the administration’s focus on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, economic growth, and social advancement has continued to improve the quality of life for residents.
He told the journalists, BoldNEWS Africa was there, that projects such as road construction across strategic areas of Ijebu-Ode, empowerment initiatives targeting young people and small business owners, and other infrastructural improvements demonstrate the administration’s commitment to purposeful and people-centred governance.
The Commissioner noted that these initiatives were designed not only to enhance mobility and economic activities but also to create opportunities for local entrepreneurs and strengthen community welfare.
Hon. Oladipo further stated that the progress recorded across sectors reflects a clear and consistent vision for sustainable development in Ogun State.
He added that the government remains committed to ensuring that no community is left behind as development continues to spread across both urban and rural areas.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government and chief host of the event, Hon. Dare Alebiosu commended residents for their enthusiastic participation and unwavering support for government initiatives. He described the massive turnout as a demonstration of unity, civic pride, and confidence in the direction of the state.
Alebiosu reaffirmed the local government’s alignment with the developmental agenda of the state administration, stressing that collaboration between state and grassroots leadership has played a critical role in delivering impactful projects within Ijebu-Ode
Traditional rulers and community leaders who delivered goodwill messages also praised the resilience and unity of the Ijebu-Ode people, urging residents to continue supporting initiatives that promote peace, development, and social cohesion. They noted that the golden jubilee celebration was not only a time for reflection but also an opportunity to reaffirm shared aspirations for growth and prosperity.
The event featured a variety of activities, including cultural displays that showcased the rich heritage and traditions of the Ijebu people. Dance performances, music presentations, and symbolic processions highlighted the community’s history and reinforced a sense of collective identity among attendees.
In addition, gifts were distributed to participants through a raffle draw, adding a festive dimension to the occasion and further engaging members of the community.
Many residents expressed optimism about the future of Ijebu-Ode and Ogun State as a whole, noting that continued investment in infrastructure, education, and economic empowerment would further enhance development and improve living standards.
The celebration in Ijebu-Ode served as a reminder of the state’s progress over the past 50 years while also highlighting the role of community participation in sustaining development.
