As Nigerian lawmakers, diplomats, clerics, and political giants gathered in Sagamu recently for Senator Gbenga Daniel’s 21st Annual Thanksgiving,
Senator Gbenga Daniel, the representative of Ogun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s outlook, declaring that the country has passed through the worst phase of its insecurity and economic challenges and that 2026 will be a better year for Nigerians.
Daniel, who spoke at the Thanksgiving Service that took place at Abraham’s Tabernacle, Sagamu, Ogun State. drew diplomats, senators, traditional rulers, Christian clerics, political associates, and other prominent Nigerians from across the country.
The former state governor attributed emerging signs of recovery to the economic and governance reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that while the reforms initially brought hardships, they are beginning to yield positive results
While he thanked God Almighty for His grace over our lives and our nation. He said the Nigerians must appreciate the President, the Commander-in-Chief, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing an enabling environment for people to thrive.
Senator Gbenga acknowledged that inflation spiked at the onset of the reforms, but indicators now suggested that gradual improvement, including a reduction in the nation’s debt profile, has begun
Gbebga declared that in recent times, we witnessed significant challenges. Inflation was quite high at the beginning, but we are now hearing that the nation’s debt profile is gradually coming down. Despite the difficulties, we remain grateful to God and hope that this year will be unforgettable in the annals of our country.
Responding to public scepticism about politicians, the senator urged Nigerians to judge leaders by their records, insisting that not all public office holders are dishonest.
Gbenga Daniel, in his statement, said that he has been holding this Thanksgiving service for 21 years. He said it on record that he was governor in 2003, and this is 2026. For over 23 years, he has interacted with the people.
If in all these years, the people have not found one lie or anything to be false, then they should know what to do with his person.
On national security, Daniel maintained that conditions would continue to improve.
Hr said the worst is over and that gradually and steadily, hope is becoming reality, and things are getting better.
The Ogun Senator said the massive turnout here today, including over 200 clergymen praying for Nigeria, shows that the country is getting in good shape. He declared that he have no doubt that this year will be a good year for our country.
Daniel also acknowledged the presence of Ambassador Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, noting that her father, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, once held the title of AsiwajuRemo Christians before his death.
In his sermon, the guest preacher, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), spoke from Psalm 50:23, emphasizing the power of thanksgiving and gratitude.
Bishop Wale said consistent thanksgiving moves the throne of God, citing King David as a biblical example of divine favour through praise.
The service was attended by several eminent personalities, including Chief Kensington Adebutu; former Nigerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Sarafa Tunji Isola; former Minister of State for Health, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora; Ambassador Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu; Ambassador Marcus-Bello; Hon. Ladi Adebutu; NADECO chieftain Chief Ayo Opadokun; Chief (Mrs) Bola Obasanjo; and real estate magnate Aare Adetola Emmanuel King.
Also present were royal fathers and religious leaders such as Anglican Archbishop Michael Olusina Fape, Methodist and Baptist leaders, members of the Church of the Lord (Aladura), and other Christian denominations.
Now in its 21st year, the annual thanksgiving has grown into a major spiritual and social gathering, bringing together leaders and worshippers to pray for Remo, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole.
