On August 2, 2025, the people of the Odosengolu Community in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area, Ogun State, Nigeria, witnessed a significant royal transition as Chief Rasak Adetubo was officially installed as the new Baale.
BoldNEWS Africa reports that Chief Rasak Adetubo ascended to the throne of Baale following a rigorous traditional selection process, firmly rooted in the community’s customs and reflecting the collective unity of the people.
The installation ceremony marked a pivotal moment in the history of the community, showcasing a seamless blend of traditional Yoruba chieftaincy customs and the modern legal framework guiding traditional leadership in Ogun State.
Chief Adetubo emerged as the preferred candidate after a thorough screening of applicants from the Aleke quarters, one of the four founding divisions of Odosengolu. The others include Itun Korodo, Aledo, and Akoka quarters. The screening committee, comprising principal heads from each quarter, endorsed Chief Adetubo following what community leaders described as a transparent and inclusive process.
Among the contenders were Chief Fatai Adetubo, Chief Azeez Adetubo, and Chief Muyideen Adetubo, the latter of whom voluntarily withdrew from the process. The remaining candidates have since congratulated the new Baale and pledged their support for his leadership.
The selection process was conducted in accordance with the community’s long-standing customs and aligned with the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law of 2021, which outlines procedures for the selection, appointment, and recognition of traditional rulers in the state. The law is part of a broader initiative to modernize the traditional institution and ensure its continued relevance in community development.
Community members and local leaders embraced the new development with heartfelt fulfillment, expressing optimism that Chief Adetubo’s leadership will usher in a new era of progress and unity in Odosengolu.
“This is not just a traditional installation, it’s a reaffirmation of our cultural identity and a vote of confidence in a process that values transparency and collective decision-making,” a senior community figure said.
As the new Baale assumes leadership, the Odosengolu community looks forward to renewed growth and harmony under his stewardship.
