The absence of former President Muhammadu Buhari at the launch of General Ibrahim Babangida’s autobiography has been linked to unresolved grievances stemming from the 1985 coup that removed him from power.
Jonathan Vatsa, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, suggested that Buhari’s decision to skip the high-profile event was unsurprising, given the historical tensions between the two former military leaders.
“The memories of 1985 remain painful, and it is not entirely unexpected that Buhari chose to stay away,” Vatsa remarked.
The book launch, which attracted a host of influential figures, has sparked widespread interest and debate. However, Vatsa refrained from commenting on the content of the memoir, stating that he would reserve his opinions until he had fully examined its details.
