Ibrahim Shuaib, a Nigerian man, has achieved a remarkable academic milestone by earning a doctoral degree from Sharda University, New Delhi, India, on a partial scholarship. His journey to this achievement, however, has been anything but conventional.
The inspiring story was shared in an X post by Mallam Mohammed Shuaib, who identified Ibrahim as his cousin and detailed the challenges and triumphs that led to his academic success. According to Mallam Shuaib, Ibrahim’s journey began in 2013, when he faced rejection from Nigerian universities, unable to secure admission despite his academic potential.
While in India that year, Mallam Shuaib came across an advertisement in a newspaper for Sharda University, one of India’s largest private institutions. Curious about the university’s admission policies for Nigerian students, he reached out to the Nigerian High Commission in Delhi for assistance. The High Commission confirmed that Sharda University did admit Nigerian students and provided the necessary conditions, which Ibrahim and his family promptly fulfilled, securing his admission.
Ibrahim’s academic excellence quickly became apparent. After completing his undergraduate degree with a first-class result, Sharda University awarded him a 50% discount on his Master’s program. He continued to impress, achieving another first-class in his Master’s degree, which earned him another partial scholarship for his PhD.
“Masters degree, he made a first class and they again gave him 50% discount on his fees for his PhD,” Mallam Shuaib recounted, celebrating his cousin’s consistent academic brilliance. With hard work and dedication, Ibrahim successfully completed his PhD, leaving many to wonder, “Why’s there no first-class for a PhD?”
